Day 7: 8 Things to Do After You Started Your Blog

Ok, so we’ve gone over all the basics of setting up your blog. Now you might be asking yourself, what’s next? Well, I’ve created a list of eight things you need to do to get your new blog ready for success. Check it out! (Psst-If you still need to create your blog, head to Day 1!)

1-Write Down Your Goals for Your Blog

It’s hard to stay motivated, especially before you start seeing any money from your blog, but it’s a lot easier to stay motivated if you set actionable, achievable, measurable goals. It’s also super important to set goals that allow you to control the outcome. For example, instead of setting an income goal, set a goal like “I will post five videos that promote my blog this week.”

2-Create a Content Schedule

Another way to stay on track is to create a realistic content schedule. As a blogger, you are a content creator, and your blog posts are your bread and butter. However, writing new blog posts consistently can be a lot. Instead, commit to one per week and focus on growing your email list and promoting your blog posts. Be realistic, and don’t overwhelm yourself.

3-Create a Realistic Marketing Plan

The bulk of the work you will do with a blog is marketing it. It can be tempting to create content for every social media platform but don’t. Stick to one or two platforms. The platform you choose will depend on your business. Just make sure that you are consistent and have a social media marketing plan you can stick to long term. Then aim to post 1-2 times a day in the beginning.

4-Check Out Pinterest

Here’s a fun fact– Pinterest is not a social media network. It is a search engine. Unlike social media platforms that want to keep you on their platform as long as possible, Pinterest’s business strategy is based on helping its users find things (like your blog.) It’s one of the top traffic sources for many successful bloggers.

5-Apply for Affiliate Links

There are countless ways to make money on your blog, but you should always have some affiliate links, too. People are visiting your blog because you know something about a topic. You will be recommending products that will help them. You might as well get paid to promote these products, even if you use them yourself and would recommend them for free.

6-Privacy Policy and Other Disclosures

You need to do a few things to ensure that your blog is legal and in compliance with state, federal, and international laws. While these rules change by country, two things you’ll definitely need are a privacy policy if you are going to collect email addresses and affiliate disclosures if you are using affiliate links in a post. Here is a more in-depth explanation of the legal disclosures you will need.

7-Install Plugins & Widgets

Ok, so this is not something you will 100% need to do, but it can save you some time and make your website more user-friendly. WordPress Plugins and widgets help your blog perform a certain function. This can be a newsletter signup form, an SEO tool, or anything else that helps you run your blog. Here is a great post that goes over all the things.

8-Join the 1000 Ways to WAHM Facebook Group

One of the keys to success is having a community. When you join the 1000 Ways to WAHM Facebook group, we will be here to help engage with your posts and answer questions when you get stuck.

So there you have it–8 things to do after you start a blog. Feeling overwhelmed? You shouldn’t be. Once you get a lot of this stuff set up, you won’t have to worry about it much, except to occasionally update it. Want to see what I do each week to manage my blog?
