Why Take the Road Less Travelled

There are literally thousands of companies that offer remote positions, but certain companies are more popular with job bloggers than others. You know the ones because you have probably seen them on every other list.

They are all great companies, but if you haven’t found one that is right for you, you might want to consider looking at the alternatives! Here are some “newbies” that I found!

1-Good Cents Bookkeeping

This company is sometimes looking for remote bookkeepers to work part-time. While they do prefer in-person, they are also open to remote positions.

2-Macmillan

Macmillian is considered of the “Big 4” of publishing houses. They publish books for all ages, including many that you may have heard of or read and frequently hire freelance editors, and these positions are remote.

3-Happy Scribe

Happy Scribe is a transcription company that works with freelancers from all over the world and pays pretty well. I am not sure if they require experience, but they do ask you to take a test. Pay is listed at about $1.04 per audio minute.

4-InboxDone

This company helps other companies find virtual assistants. What is interesting about it is that they almost exclusively handle emails for their clients. Basically, you would just be helping the client respond to emails. No resume or cover letter is required to apply!

5-Prof360

This company helps colleges and universities fill part-time faculty roles and can be great for someone in higher education who is only interested in teaching a class or two. It is both woman and minority-owned.

6-Flippa

This is not exactly a job but a business idea. Basically, you use Flippa to buy existing websites. Then you create content for those websites and drive traffic to them. Once you have built up a following, you can sell them on Flippa for a higher price. This involves some risk but could be pretty profitable.

7-MaxBounty

If you have ever considered starting a blog, you might be familiar with affiliate marketing. Essentially, a company like MaxBounty helps you find companies that are looking for affiliate marketers to promote their products. However, MaxBounty is a click-per-action company. That means you get paid when someone uses your link to perform an action such as signing up for a mailing list. They don’t have to buy anything, like with other forms of affiliate marketing–just perform the desired action.

8-Ferpection

Ferpection is a user-testing company that pays you to test apps, websites, and more. It might be a good source of side income, or you could sign up to work for multiple companies for a more steady stream of income.

So there you have it–eight companies that are a little less well-known than some of the others. Have you ever worked with one of these companies? Leave a comment below and let me know how it went, or check out my eBook 1000 WAYS to WAHM for even more great ideas!
