25 Entry-Level Ways to Make Money from Home!

If you are a mom, you know how challenging it is to find quality and affordable childcare, especially if you have more than one kid. Working at home could be a great option for you, but it can be just as hard to find work-at-home jobs that don’t suck, and it seems like every WAHM list is the same—data entry, coupon apps, and survey sites.

But DON’T get discouraged or give up on your dream of being financially independent just yet. 

The truth is that there are thousands of legitimate job and business opportunities out there, but certain companies pay writers to promote their jobs. That is why they appear more frequently on those lists. This guide is a little different. I have researched thousands of companies and at-home business opportunities to bring you only the ones that I think have the most potential. Who Is This Beginner’s Guide For?

This guide is for everyone. You DO not need any experience to begin most of the jobs listed here. All of these positions have decent or even great earning potential, and most can be done on your own time. Most of these positions do not require any phone work at all, and there are no MLMs, or direct sales positions listed.  

(MLMs can be the right fit for many WAHMs, and we are a BIG fan of Usbourne books in our house, but this guide was designed to give you some alternative ideas!)

Here Are a Few Tips to Get You Started

Don’t Give Up! 

If you are looking for a non-sales, non-phone, non-MLM job that accepts entry-level workers, you might need to dig a little, but these jobs are out there. 

Focus on One Thing at a Time

I am a big fan of having multiple streams of income, but when you first start an online business or new job, focus on one thing at a time. Trust me! You will get more done. 

Consider Working for Yourself

Being self-employed can be scary and confusing, but it is actually perfect for moms who don’t have a ton of experience, need maximum flexibility and want to have more control over what they earn.

Plan to Have Multiple Streams of Revenue

I know I contradict myself. While it IS important to set realistic goals and focus on one thing at a time, you do need to think long-term. Even if you have a full-time job, it is always a good idea to have a secondary way to make money because you never know what will happen. This is the best way to create long-term financial stability. 

So here is the list:

Part 1: Work as a Freelancer!

This is my favorite way to make money since you can work as much or as little as you want, and you can make as much as you want! Working as a freelance copywriter has allowed me to stay at home with my kids, even as a single mom. You can choose to partner with a company like Assistant Match, offer these services on a freelance site like or build a website and run ads to sell your services!

1. Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants can actually offer many of the services on this list, including social media marketing, transcription, and more. You can also offer services like data entry, bookkeeping, and more. Companies like Assistant Match and 24/7 Virtual Assistants are always hiring, or you can sell your services on a site like Fiverr. 

2. Writing 

The sky is the limit when you choose writing as a career. There are thousands of companies actively seeking people to create content, write blog posts, and even do product descriptions. You don’t even need experience or a degree. Places like Wordgigs and A List Apart hire writers with no experience to produce great content!

3. Transcription

As a transcriber, you would be responsible for typing what is said in a video or audio file. This is actually one of the most profitable freelance services to offer, as podcasts become more popular and companies need videos transcribed for Google searches. You can offer it as a freelancer or apply to companies like GMR Transcription. Many are beginner-friendly, as long as you can pass a test!

4. Online Tutoring

There are so many great companies hiring freelance tutors for students from elementary school to graduate school. While many of these companies have education requirements, the pay tends to be pretty good. Tutor.com and Studypool.com are two great options!

5. Teaching ESL

These jobs typically require a TESOL or other ESL certification, and many require a college degree, but otherwise, they are pretty flexible and pay well. VIPKids is a great choice!

6. Translation

If you know a second language, there are dozens of companies looking for your services. World Lingo and CyraCom are two great companies that pay well and can help you connect with clients! Some translators make more than $100,000 per year, making it a great choice!

7. Social Media Marketing

As a social media marketer, you would be managing the social media accounts of different brands, businesses, and entrepreneurs. You have the option to get your own clients, set up a gig on Fiverr, or work for a company like $99Social or The Social Element.

8. Pinterest Marketer

Pinterest is a very unique website, as it is both a visual search engine and a social media site. It allows small businesses to be found by more people. As a Pinterest marketer, your job would be to help these businesses become more visible on this site. Pinterest VA  is a great place to get started as it helps you connect with clients. 

9. Graphic Design

Did you know that you don’t need a graphic design degree or even Photoshop skills to get started in graphic design? All you need is a simple editing program like Canva and some creativity. Canva has a bunch of great templates for all sorts of projects, including book covers, logos, and more, and there are many great sites to sell your services on!

10. Gig Seller

If you don’t see anything that catches your eye, you might want to consider creating your own gig on Fiverr. The possibilities are endless—you can become a ghostwriter, do tarot card readings, offer event planning, become a coach, and more. I have a beta reading gig on Fiverr where I read books for self-published authors to catch any plot holes and mistakes before they publish. 

Part 2: Start an Online Product Business

There are a bunch of different ways to sell products online, which can be a great source of passive income. You can do any of these as a side hustle or full-time gig. 

11. Dropshipping-Shopify 

Have you ever wanted to own your own online store? You might want to consider dropshipping. Basically, you create a website or other online store and connect it to a platform like Shopify. They help you find great products to sell and then fulfill the orders for you, so you never need to have any inventory!

12. Create POD Products-Printify

This is a fun idea for people who are kind of creative but kind of not. (Like me.) Basically, you design, market, and sell items like t-shirts and mugs. Then a company like Printify or Gearbubble fulfills the orders. You are responsible for promoting your items so it takes a bit of work, but it can become a great stream of passive income. These companies both allow you to sell on Amazon, Etsy, or on your own website.

13. Handmade Items-Etsy

If you are super crafty, you can make handmade items and sell them on your own website or on a platform like Etsy. This isn’t quite passive income, but it can be a great way to turn a passion into a way to make some extra cash. 

14. Flip Items-eBay

Are you a collector of vintage toys or a lover of garage sales? You might want to consider buying and selling used and vintage items on eBay, Mercari, and other sites! You can try books, baby items, vintage toys, and more.  

15. Digital Products-Etsy

What is a digital product? Basically, it can be anything from Cricut templates to crafting patterns to planners to an eBook like 1000 Ways to WAHM! Etsy is actually a really great place to sell these products as setting up a shop is super simple!

Part 3: 10 Great Companies That Hire WAHMs!

Running a business isn’t for everyone! The taxes alone are a pain-in-the-butt! 16. Lionbridge-Search Engine Evaluation

Lionbridge is best known for its search engine and ad evaluation jobs. These jobs don’t require any experience, are part-time, and offer flexible schedules. As an evaluator, you analyze the quality of search results you get when you use a search engine like Google or Bing.

17. Alorica-Customer Service

Alorica hires customer service reps for big companies, but they seem to have a lot of options—both full-time and part-time positions in a wide range of fields. They do hire for phone work, but they also hire for chat, email, and non-phone work positions!

18. ModSquad-Moderation

When you join ModSquad as a moderator, you will be monitoring online communities, forums, and social media groups to make sure the company’s rules are being followed. These jobs tend to be flexible and part-time. 

19. CrispThinking-Moderation

Crisp Thinking is a great alternative to ModSquad that provides moderators to online communities. These jobs are flexible, part-time, and require no experience. 

20. New York Life-Insurance

I was surprised to see insurance jobs that were considered entry-level, but many companies like New York Life hires and trains for both claims processing and sales. It’s an in-demand field, the pay is decent, and it could be a great opportunity. 

21. Progressive-Insurance

Progressive is another company that hires entry-level workers for a variety of positions in the insurance industry. It can look great on your resume, and it is a large, reputable company!

22. Magic Ears-Teach ESL

Magic Ears is a popular platform for children in China who wish to learn English. While you don’t need experience, you will need a Bachelors’s degree for this position and TESOL or TEFL certification. However, it is flexible and pays up to $26 an hour.

23. Aerotek-Staffing Agency

Aerotek is a staffing agency that helps companies in all industries find talented people to work for them. They regularly hire both entry-level and remote positions. 

24. Randstad-Staffing Agency

Randstad is another great staffing agency that hires in all industries. Between the two of them, you are sure to find something that is perfect for your family!

25. HireMyMom.com–Freelance Company

HireMyMom helps small businesses fill remote positions quickly. There are a whole bunch to choose from, including virtual assisting, writing, and more. These jobs may be freelance or employee positions.
