I never actually saw myself as a dance mom, since, well, I can’t dance. I was more of an outdoorsy kid, riding horses, playing in the woods, etc. But when my first daughter was born, it was pretty clear that she was going to be into all things girly.

Princesses, unicorns, and of course, dance. I signed up at a local studio when she turned three, and the next year, she was getting ready for her first dance recital. It was a lot more involved than I thought, from the forms to all the pre-recital events to the big day, but in the end, she made her debut dancing to “Part of That World” from The Little Mermaid.
